Welcome to the Hillsdale Conservation DistrictYou hear about invasive fish in the Great Lakes choking our fisheries, as well as foreign plants that are invading native habitats. Hear about the problem of Invasive Species and what you can do to help at our upcoming dinner and annual meeting. A BIT OF HISTORYThe Hillsdale County Conservation District was voted in on June 26, 1944 and approved by the State Soil Conservation Committee on June 27, 1944. The District Office was opened up in Hillsdale in March of 1945.The first Directors to serve on the Board were: J.D. Hawkes, Litchfield; Henry VanDeusen, Hillsdale; Harold Mann, Jonesville; C.O. Brott, Montgomery; and Herman Bernath, Prattville.
THE PURPOSE OF THE DISTRICTThe District was organized by the farmers of Hillsdale County for the purpose of promoting and directing a good soil and water conservation program on all the land in Hillsdale County.The program of the District includes soil and water conservation problems and recommended improvements in land use management and water conservation and development in order to conserve, develop, and improve the natural resources of the District. The residents of this county organized this District in order to address the concerns and problems through an action program in a cooperative manner. The District enlists the assistance of local, state, and/or national agencies in order to accomplish it's objectives.
